Karen is married to former Frederick Mayor Ron Young. They live in Worman’s Mill with two dogs (Andy and Yitzhak) and a cat (Teddy). Her daughter Melissa is 24, lives in Florida, and is studying for a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling. Her grandson, Caleb Richard is nine months old.

She enjoys reading, traveling, skiing, swimming, and the arts. She is a member of the board of trustees at Congregation Kol Ami.

Business Experience

Karen is a business leader with over thirty years of experience in senior management in large corporations and in her own entrepreneurial venture, Karen Lewis Market Research.

Karen has worked in marketing management for American Express and Chase Manhattan Bank, served as a District Manager for Citibank and as a Director of Market Research for Capital One. She has managed budgets in excess of $100 million and has had profit center responsibility for a business with $65 million in assets. Karen has also led strategic planning, training and human resource departments. She was recruited to Frederick as the Chief Marketing Officer for Farmer’s and Mechanics Bank.

Education

Karen graduated with honors from Franklin and Marshall College and continued her studies by receiving an M.A. in American History and an M.B.A. from Columbia University in New York.

Community Service

For the past thirteen years she has been extremely active in the community through service to over 15 organizations. Some of them are: Leadership Frederick, The Weinberg Center for the Arts, The Frederick County Commission for Women, The Rotary Club of Frederick, The Fredericktowne Players, The Academy of Finance, The Women’s Giving Circle and The Frederick County Humane Society.
